In order to meet out the increasing speed of data and traffic in Asia, Google has recently announced the construction of a new data center in Singapore. “I think it’s safe to say this is the fastest-growing region in the world in terms of Internet usage and we have a very strong Google business here,” Google’s Southeast Asia managing director Julian Persaud revealed during a press brief. The Singapore’s data centre will be the Google’s first in Southeast Asia and second in Asia after construction for Hong Kong centre has started last week. Google reflected that Asia is the fastest growing searchers for Internet users.
Google will invest $120 million in the 2.45 hectare (6.05 acre) Singapore facility, as it would be ready to be operated by early 2013. It is also considering creating it’s another data center in Taiwan apart from its six in USA and two in Europe. Asian centers would provide Asia- Pacific region more reliable and faster services. This move is taken by the Google to improve application and services like Gmail.
