According to a staggering revelation, a computer worms has stolen about 45,000 login credentials from Facebook according to security experts. The data has been primarily has stolen from Facebook accounts in the UK and France, as told by the security company Seculert. The worm for creating this havoc is Ramnit – that has been in cyber from April 2010 and also known for steeling banking details. The latest activity of the worm was diagnosed in Seculert’s labs. According to researchers, “ Cybercriminals are taking advantage of the fact that users tend to use the same password in various web-based services to gain remote access to corporate networks,” it added.
Social networks are attractive harbour for hackers as the huge database of personal data is found on them. The already existing viruses are updated to attack social media sites. According to Seculert, 800,000 machines were found infected with Ramnit from September to the end of December 2011. Microsoft’s Malware Protection Center (MMPC) explained Ramnit as “a multi-component malware family which infects Windows executable as well as HTML files…”. For Facebook users is advised to run anti-virus software’s to protect their accounts.
